In May 2008, Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC) signed a contract with BWSC for an 18 MW extension of their existing diesel power plant at the Queen's Highway Power Plant. MAN Diesel is the nominated supplier of the diesel engine.
GBPC is a private company producing and supplying electricity to the island of Grand Bahama in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. In 2004 BWSC received a contract from GBPC for an 18 MW diesel power plant. This new contract is for an extension of that plant built by BWSC.
The contract covers turnkey delivery of the diesel power plant including extension of the existing power house, supply and installation of 1 x MAN 18V48/60 medium speed diesel engine with generator, all mechanical, electrical and control systems, and connection of all systems to the existing plant. The new diesel plant will be delivered in 2010.
Following the constructive and inspiring cooperation with GBPC for the project in 2004 (Unit no. 33), BWSC has noted with appreciation that the delivery and performance of said project has been to the full satisfaction of GBPC and has led to this new contract for Unit no. 34 to Grand Bahama.
