BWSC has secured a five-year Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the Maria Gléta power plant in Benin.
The contract, which took effect on 7 September, calls for 55 local employees and two BWSC specialists to be on site for the entire period. The power plant owner, Société Béninoise d’Energie Electrique (SBEE), also has the option of extending the contract.
On site, on track
Work is well underway at the Maria Gléta site, where BWSC, in consortium with MAN Energy Solutions, is the turnkey contractor for the 120 MW power plant.
According to Karsten Valsted Larsen, BWSC’s representative during negotiations, the final signature paves the way for a smooth transition when construction is completed and operations begin mid-2019.
He explains: “The O&M team will begin mobilising in November 2018 and coordinating with the contracting crew on site, ordering spare parts and the like. That way our team is up and running as soon as the hand-over takes place.”
