Copenhagen Sakura Festival

The Copenhagen Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Festival is taking place in Langelinie Park 30 April - 1 May 2016.

Due to our Japanese ownership, BWSC is again one of the proud sponsors of the Festival.

The two-day program comprises drum shows, dances including Cherry Blossom dance, swordfighting, karate, flee market, fashion show and tea ceremony a.o. The activities offer a wide range of entertainment and insight into Japanese culture.

In 2006 Copenhagen Municipality was given 200 Japanese cherry trees by the Danish Honorary Consul in Hiroshima, Mr Seiichi Takaki, on the occasion of H. C. Andersen's 200 year birthday. The first cherry blossom season of the trees in Langelinie Park was celebrated with a fine little ceremony on 15 May. In Japan "hanami", which means flower-viewing or admiration of flowers, is celebrated every year.
