In August 2006, BWSC received an order for a 36 MW power plant expansion for the Miraflores Power Plant concluded between a consortium - consisting of BWSC A/S, BWSC Panama S.A., and MAN B&W Diesel AG - and the Authority of the Panama Canal (ACP).
The expansion covers 2 x MAN B&W 18V48/60 medium speed diesel engines, all auxiliary systems, and an extension of the power house built in 2002. Taking over is scheduled for February 2008.
The main purpose of this project is to replace 2 old steam units nos. 3 and 4 at the Miraflores Power Plant to which BWSC and MAN B&W Diesel in 2002 supplied an 18MW power station based on 1 x MAN B&W 18V48/60 diesel engine.
BWSC is very pleased with ACP’s satisfaction with the delivery and performance of the first engine and with the fact that the good relations established in 2002 has now led to the order of the 36 MW expansion.
