On June 28, 2005, a power plant contract was signed between SONABEL (the public power organization in Burkina Faso) and BWSC. At the same time a loan agreement for financing of the project was signed between the Danish Credit Mixed Institution under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affaires and the Ministry of Finance in Burkina Faso. This is the first mixed credit financed project for BWSC.
The contract comprises a turnkey delivery of a new power plant unit of 18 MW (MAN B&W engine) as an extension to the existing plant as well as a transmission line system in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.
November 17, 2005, was the official starting date for implementation of the project, and by November 2006 the new power plant unit and the transmission system must be in operation.
