In December 2007, Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and BWSC signed a contract for a 50 MW low speed diesel power project to be built at EAC’s existing power station in Dhekelia, Cyprus.
The project is a fast track project; BWSC was pre-qualified on 17 September, submitted proposal on 2 November and received Letter of Award on 17 November 2007.
The project consists of 3 major phases:
- Provision of 50 MW temporary capacity during summer 2008
- A permanent turnkey 50 MW diesel power plant consisting of 3 Mitsui-MAN B&W 12K50 MC-S diesel engines and all auxiliaries to be ready for operation by 1 June 2009
- 4 years of Technical Support (TSA) including all spare parts from June 2009 to May 2013.
EAC is the sole utility company in Cyprus and is owned by the Cyprus Government. This is the first time EAC will use diesel engines for electricity production, and BWSC is very pleased with this opportunity to prove the reliability and state-of-the-art efficiency of this type of prime movers together with BWSC’s capabilities as main contractor.
